2022 Summer Internship

Oakland Recording Sample Work

Oakland Recording Blog Article

This is an article I published for Oakland Recording during my time as a social media marketing intern. It was an Artist spotlight assignment where the interns were asked to write an article consisting of 500+ words on our favorite musical artist. I chose Kali Uchis because I enjoy her music and knew she had an interesting come-up story that many people probably weren't aware of. During the time the article was released she had written a song that was going to be featured in the new Minions movie, "Minions: The Rise of Gru" so the timing was perfect. I conducted several hours of research, reading different articles and watching interviews to fully comprehend her story and how she rose to fame. Once I was done finalizing my article I sent it over to my boss, and she provided me with insightful feedback on how to improve my article. I applied the feedback and transferred my article onto the website domain for publishing.

Instagram Post announcing Oakland Recordings collaboration with Avid Pro Tools

This was the very first Instagram post creation task I was given. I was instructed to create a graphic to post on both the feed and story, announcing their recent collaboration with Avid Pro Tools. We could work with any graphic design platform, I chose Canva because it is the one that I am most familiar with. I chose a  simple layout where I could include bits of essential information while not overwhelming the viewer with too many words or unnecessary information.  I strategically included the website at the bottom of the graphic so that once the viewer is done reading it they know where they can access more information. I also chose a purple and blue background because OR's color is blue and Avids is purple. Once the feed post was finalized I had to convert it to a story format, which was a process that I was unfamiliar with. I reached out to my boss seeking advice and she guided me step by step. Once both were finished I sent them over to my boss for final approval.

"Quote of the Day" Instagram Post

This is an Instagram post I created for OR's "Quote of the Day" segment. I was instructed to choose a quote from a musician and create a graphic displaying that quote. I chose this quote by BB King because it relates to OR's mission of education and I curated a graphic that coordinates with the company's colors and aesthetic. In addition to posting on the feed, it also had to be featured on the story. I had to transfer the feed post to a story template on Canva and adjust it to fit the dimensions. Once the posts were ready I came up with a caption, paired it with corresponding hashtags, and sent it over to my boss for approval.

"Fun Fact Tuesday" Instagram Post

An Instagram post I created for OR's "Fun Fact Tuesday" segment where I had to come up with two questions, one for my boss (Crystal) and one for the founder of OR (Steven). The first question has a straightforward answer but the second one includes a more complex answer. Because the question I gave Steven was more complex he provided an in-depth response. I had to thoroughly read through his response and decide which were the most important relevant parts corresponding to the question. I decided to break up his response into two-paragraph chunks making it more appealing and easier for the viewer to comprehend. As opposed to combining the paragraphs to make one big one, which tends to feel intimidating and does not entice the viewer to read the context.

"New Music Wednesday" Instagram Post

I created this Instagram post for OR's "New Music Wednesday" segment, in which the interns had to choose a recent song release and come up with a creative graphic to display on the feed and story. I chose Nicki Minaj's song, "Super Freaky Girl". I started by using the cover art for the single, overlayed a pause play graphic, and added a mouse to appear as it is clicking play. I went with blue, OR's signature color, as my background so that it would tie into the company aesthetic. I also chose to reference the popular, "calling all Barbz" phrase that is associated with Nicki Minaj and her fandom. Lastly, I  constructed a corresponding caption that was fun and creative like the song. In the caption I also referenced a popular social media/ pop culture phrase "hot girl", thanking Nicki for one last hot girl anthem to end off the summer with.

Instagram Poll Story Post

I created this Instagram poll story post for OR's poll segment. The poll asked who the better guitarist was, Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page. I chose this question because they are two of the greatest globally renowned guitarists.

New Blog Article Post Instagram Template

This is an Instagram template I created that announces the new blog article posted to the OR website. I chose to designate a spot to place a snippet of the article on the template as a teaser of what the article is about with hopes of further enticing the viewer to read the entire article. I also left a space for an image that is relevant to the article. I made it in a light and dark version as well to add variety to the accounts profile feed.

Instagram Template for "What We're Listening To " Segment

An Instagram template I created for OR's 'what're listening to" segment. I went for a simple layout that mimics a music streaming platform with the highlight of the graphic being the cover art, which I modified to a black and white tone, and below it the name and artist of the song.
